Our Story

The Overseas School of Colombo is rooted in a rich history that spans over 65 years, embracing the motto "Unity in Diversity." OSC is more than just a sanctuary for education; it is a haven for holistic, experiential learning. We integrate learning with multicultural acceptance, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, social responsibility, personal accountability, and civic duty.

Our journey towards fostering an inclusive environment began with a profound need to re-evaluate our Mission, Vision, and Values. Collaborating with the Big Question Institute and experts like Homa Tavangar and Will Richardson, we formed a guiding coalition that represented our diverse community—students, staff, parents, and alumni. This coalition reimagined our mission to better reflect who we are and who we aspire to be.

At OSC, we are not just compassionate; we are committed to action. We actively work to dismantle dominant power structures and amplify marginalized voices, ensuring that our actions are intentional and aligned with our strategic plan.

We are courageous; we demonstrate courage by openly addressing our struggles and acknowledging that mistakes are part of our learning journey towards becoming an anti-racist school.

We are forever curious; committed to curiosity by consistently seeking out diverse perspectives, understanding various cultures, religions, and values, and striving to recognize and address our own implicit biases.
