IB ResultsThe Overseas School of Colombo has continuously been authorized to offer the two year IB Diploma Programme since 1983. The following data is a comparison of the year by year OSC student results to the OSC 5 year average and the IB world results published in The IB Diploma Programme Statistical Bulletin for each examination session found on the IBO Public Website at www.ibo.org. OSC students have consistently earned higher than the IB World average in all aspects of the programme.
* 2011 data has not yet been released. ** Calculated from 2010 until 2011 data is released later this year. 1 IB Diploma Programme Candidates may register for a modified set of subjects instead of attempting the full complement of requirements for the IB Diploma and receive only a certificate of examination results. An IB Diploma candidate who does not pass the requirements for the IB Diploma will also only receive a certificate of results for their examinations. A candidate who meets all of the requirements for the IB Diploma receives the IB Diploma as well as a certificate of their results. Fewer candidates worldwide attempt the full IB Diploma than take individual subjects and examinations for certificates only. 2 30 IB points arejust above the IB World Average andare equivalent to an average IB grade of 5 (good). Many North American universities give university course credit for grades of 5 or better, especially at the Higher Level. 3 36IB points are equivalent to an average IB grade of 6 (very good). Many North American Universities give a full year of university credit at considerable savings to the student or the possibility of graduating with a double major in 4 years. Only 17-18% of IB candidates around the world achieve 36IB points or greater. Approximately 5.5% of IB candidates earn 40 points or better and only about 0.2% earn the maximum 45 points.
