Dear Parent,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the OSC’s Primary School. The Primary School is made up of Pre-school to Grade 5 students (ages 3-11) with two classes per grade.

Our core philosophy is that we place the student at the centre of everything that occurs at the school. Every conversation, decision and action always starts with the student. Schools are for children… it just happens that adults work in them.

The Primary School follows the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme (PYP). This is a student-centred, inquiry-based programme that encourages our students to take a central role in their own learning. For those students not proficient in English, the Primary School is supported by a full-time English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher.

Fundamental to OSC’s teaching and learning is the involvement of the parent in the education process. The relationship between student, parent and teacher is critical in serving the learning needs of our students. Schools are no longer islands where classroom doors are closed and parents are not welcome. At OSC, we value and cherish parental involvement in all stages of the learning process.
Please do:

• Maintain regular contact with the school
• Share a love of books and reading with your child
• Support your child’s mother tongue
• Assist your child with their learning at home
• Come into school on a regular basis
• Participate in learning activities offered within the class

Communication is vital at all levels in order for us to make this the best possible learning environment for your children. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you want to clarify or discuss the Programme in any way.
