We believe that sport is a fundamental aspect of child development, and we encourage our students to participate in both individual and team sports, and all students from Pre-school to Grade 10 take part in Physical Education classes every week.

Our teams

Our sports teams are called the Geckos - we are more of a force to contend with than our name may imply! Every year we compete in the South Asian Inter-Schools Association (SAISA) Sports Conference, which covers swimming, basketball, soccer and track and field for both boys and girls. The Geckos get the opportunity to travel to a different SAISA country (such as India, Nepal and Bangladesh) to compete, and we also welcome visitors when it’s Sri Lanka’s turn to host the tournament. We also take part in sports events against other schools in Colombo.

Our sports facilities

Sports Centre
In August 2009, we were proud to open our amazing new Sports Centre which has basketball, badminton and volleyball courts, a rock-climbing wall, as well as a cardio/weight room. There is also an elevated viewing gallery for our guests that doubles as a small cafe during sporting events.

Outdoor facilities
These include a basketball court, and an athletics pitch that is used as a 200m athletics track, a soccer pitch, “soft” cricket oval and cricket nets.

Swimming pool
“Go, Geckos, go!” is the cheer that rises up from the spectator stands during our swimming meets which are exciting events for the whole school. Our six-lane, 25-metre pool is part of our life at the OSC community: all students from Pre-school to Grade 8 have weekly swimming classes and we invite parents and their families to use the facilities after hours.
