As part of our philosophy of developing the “whole person”, OSC actively encourages students to explore their interest in Performing Arts. We are lucky enough to be able to give our students the best facilities with which to discover and hone their talents: in 2008 we opened our state-of-the-art performing arts centre, including a 450-seat auditorium that can be shaped to suit every performance using multi-level seating and movable stages. Our auditorium also boasts Strand Lighting and Dolby Sound systems – the very best equipment to support our students’ acting, dancing, singing and speaking talents. Students are taught how to use all the apparatus and regularly run the systems during school performances. Next to the auditorium is the Black Box Studio, a fully sound-proofed space that is ideal for up-and-coming actors who want to experiment with Performing Arts. This room has all the necessary equipment and atmosphere for students to practice their skills. Also in our performing arts centre is a green room, and music classroom, called the salon, with a classroom set of keyboards and other instruments. OSC helps provide individual music lessons with peripatetic teachers who come to OSC for this purpose every week. Every year, both the Primary and Secondary Schools produce at least one production, and all students are encouraged to take part. Recent productions have included a Primary School musical, “Nagwaja”, and “The Servant of Two Masters” in the Secondary School. While OSC provides a formal integrated music/drama curriculum in the Primary School, we do not as yet have a formal instrumental or choral music programme in the Secondary School. We have plans to introduce such a programme beginning in the 2012-13 school year. |
