For a parent, to see one’s child changing vividly and drastically is a great joy. Since my kids entered OSC, every single day of my life was just filled with happy surprises. For young children who have a lot of energy to do anything, and flexibility to accept a new culture and language, even one year or one month is long enough to change themselves surprisingly.
Since the first day in OSC, day by day, they are getting more independent, having their own opinion, having more confidence through their experience and becoming better communicators with their friends in a multi cultural environment. Especially through their own difficulty of language, my kids have been learning to be patient when they communicate with others and getting to know the importance of listening to others and caring for them in order to understand them better. Through the PYP (Primary Years Programme) and MYP (Middle Years Programme), they have been learning how to learn things, not only just how to answer to the questions in the tests; I believe that this is the most important thing in their real lives. And also this is the most different part of their education if I compare with Japanese education. In Japan children are inputting information just to memorize, and most of their time is spent preparing for higher education and it steals their precious time to think by themselves. I believe children who know how to learn things can find their way to learn whatever, wherever and whenever. And their positive attitude to learn always helps them to learn something more deeply.
I appreciate all the teachers who keep encouraging my kids, specially my daughter who joined later than my son, in her good days or bad days and I do not have enough words to thank them. They always try to understand my kids using not only language, but also with their heart. I know that your teachers and school gave my kids a great change in their life. For these reasons, I am happy in Colombo because I am happy with our school OSC. |
